Promotion Board

The Long Island City Bulldog Battalion is one that we can never forget. With it shares of ups and downs we have come to understand how an Army JROTC unit is suppose to work. With open arms we welcome the new freshman into our beloved corps and with new cadets come the same old question we answer year after year, the promotion.

Every new cadet comes in with the same dream, to become the battalion superhero also known as the lieutenant colonel. But just as important as the question is the answer. Now there is no sure fire way of becoming battalion commander but we do have a guide that will help you get there. It is called “The Promotion Board”.

The promotion board is point system that is designed to evaluate which cadet is ready for what rank. It consists of multiple areas from the fields of academic knowledge to fitness and first aid. The promotion board is an easy way to help the senior leaders fairly and properly promote the new cadets. But hold on to your dreams because you or one of the ones you see around could be the next lieutenant colonel.  In order to get promoted there will always be a recommendation needed that goes through the chain of command and eventually gives any cadet their new rank.

Our Future Awaits For Us

We all know college can be a very rewarding and difficult experience, especially when you don’t have a way to pay for it. Luckily we have great opportunities to pay for it without having to give a single cent and these opportunities are called grants and scholarships.

Now becoming one of the most difficult scholarships to get, the ROTC scholarship not only does it pay for your full college tuition, it gives you extra money for other essentials. St. Johns University Senior ROTC came to the classroom and discussed some of the requirements you need to have in order to qualify and receive this scholarship.

For those Juniors, Seniors and other underclassmen who wish to go for this scholarship you must have a score of a 900 on the SAT’s (math and reading combined), you must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and no serious criminal record. The physical fitness test isn’t required until you receive the scholarship.

If you’re looking to find a way to get into college without having to pay a fortune for tuition make sure you apply for scholarships not just to one but to many and if you see this scholarship is right for you don’t hesitate to apply.

WELCOME!!!

It’s yet another year and the Bulldog Battalion is ready for action. We welcome all new cadets into our family and give a warm welcome back to returning cadets. This year there will be a lot of things to expect. The first thing in the corps is our Major Torelli, who has recently joined us and we will pay loads of respect to him.

For new Cadets must follow all requirements to be promoted to a Private. Cadets must attend [and participate] one drill and one raider practice. They must recite their creed and pass a ranks test. If you have recruited anyone bring them to room 310 and introduce them to either Major Torelli or the First Sergeant.

Being a part of the JROTC Bulldog Battalion means you have to be committed to the Corps. At all times present your LDRSHIP skills.

JROTC teaches young students discipline. The class can be counted as a elective  or a Social Studies credit. There are many teams that interested cadets could join. The teams are Academics, Drill Team, Explorers, Raider/PT team, and the Service Learning teams. Joining these teams and being an active participant can earn you a cord.

The mission of JROTC is “To motivate young people to be better Citizens” and as a team we will work together to accomplish our mission.

A Valuable Lesson

On 12th Dec, 2007, 4th, 5th, and 6th period JROTC cadets welcomed a Medal of Honor recipient, and resigned U.S. army captain – Paul W. Bucha. During the Vietnam War, Paul W. Bucha was a captain company commander of company D, 3rd battalion, 18th infantry, 3rd brigade, 101 St airborne division.

Our Bulldog Battalion was honored to invite Captain Bucha to share his experience with us. Not only was he an All American Swimmer when he was a high school scholar, Bucha also attended West Point. Not long after graduation, he earned his MBA from Stanford University. Every cadet was wearing their uniform sitting straight, cathexis and rapture, listening to Captain Bucha’s amazing and yet full of philosophies’ experience.

It was such a pity that the time went by like a flying arrow, the period ended so quickly. But when the bell rang, no one moved, everyone was still sitting quietly and still. At the end, Captain Bucha gave us all a valuable advice to life and that is “integrity is worth a fortune.”

Hello world!

Welcome to the Long Island City Army JROTC Bulldog Battalion website. As you can see the web site is still in the early stages of development and will need more work done on it. But for now the photo gallery and creed are available. The website should be complete in a week or two but no latter then the end of December.
